Oakley Coronation Park

Little Oakley's new village green-space and recreational area is called ‘Oakley Coronation Park’. It was officially opened on Saturday 17th June 2023 by Nigel Spencer MBE, the Deputy Lieutenant to the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, and members of the local Beaver group, past and present.

On and off, the Parish Council has been looking to acquire its own green space since the 1970’s. We are therefore very proud that all the recent hard work by everyone involved has come to fruition.

The land has been leased from Essex County Council and is located between Lodge Road and rear entrance to Two Village School.

The area was cleared of scrub and seeded with grass ready for the installation of the first phase of play equipment in the spring of 2023.

A gate has been installed across the entrance to prevent the incursion of unwelcome cars and other vehicles, leaving the footpath to the school and the bridle path clear.

Equipment includes a junior football area, a 6m x 6m basketball court and a 25m zipwire, or aerial runway.

Picnic benches, bench seating and litter bins have also be provided.

We have installed three bench seats and are now taking expressions of interest from anyone who would like to sponsor a seat, for example, in memory of a loved one. The cost of doing this has not yet been set, but please send any expression of interest to the Clerk to the Council so that we can gauge interest.

Likewise, if you are a business in Little Oakley or the surrounding area, would you like to sponsor one of the picnic benches? Please contact us if you are interested.

The infant/toddler play area at the Memorial Club will continue to be maintained by the Parish Council for the foreseeable future.
